Colorful Moth - Acharia stimulea

Size: Medium
Either an old moth, or a fresh moth that battered its head to eclose. In any event, it went through a terrific rain storm during the night to find its way to the delta. Appears to be a borer of sorts. Any help to identify will be appreciated

Colorful Moth
Hi Jacques - how are things at LSU? I believe your moth is an adult of the Saddleback Caterpillar, Acharia stimulea. The caterpillar delivers a nasty sting. The adults are very uncommon in our area. Take good care -- Darryl
