bug attacked by jumping spider - Xanthochilus saturnius

bug attacked by jumping spider - Xanthochilus saturnius
Sequoia National Park, California, USA
July 12, 2011
Size: ~0.5 cm
This bug was observed in the alpine zone of Sequoia National Park, at about 11,300'. It was attacked by a jumping spider that bit and killed it but did not eat it. (The spider kept trying; it'd jump onto the bug, then jump away, over and over again. The spider must not have liked the way this bug tasted because it soon attacked and fed on a small fly instead.) I'm sorry the picture isn't clearer; the light parts of the bug had a lovely, coppery sheen. Besides an ID, I'm wondering if anyone has any comments about why the jumping spider may have rejected its meal.
