Rivula propinqualis, Wagner - Owlets pg 72, which actually feeds on grasses.

The vetch was growing amid grass so the caterpillar could have been eating grass, too. You must have the new book by Wagner, I presume. This sounds promising as I did come across several of the moths last summer.

Wonder if it's Acronicta. Did you get it to grow and molt?

No, I don't have any further photos. It was one of the many caterpillars that did not survive.
