Blue Mud Wasp - Chalybion californicum

Blue Mud Wasp - Chalybion californicum
Madison, Dane County, Wisconsin, USA
June 24, 2006
Size: 2 cm
This guy was deceased of unknown causes when I found it, whilst pulling weeds in the flower boxes. I don't know if the photo translates it well, but it seems to be very dark blue, almost black in color, with dark brown wings. I think it's some kind of wasp, but I'm not sure what kind.

Chalybion sp. (Sphecidae)
Probably C. californicum.
