This spider was on the outside of our house. My guess is that it's a type of wolf spider, but I haven't found any that match the coloring and markings exactly. He was about 1.5-2" long (including legs).

This one has great colors on it, I think she may have recently molted.

Wolf spider
This IS a wolf spider, though at first glance it sure resembles a Dolomedes fisher spider. The classification of wolf spiders has always been highly problematic, and one cannot rely upon color patterns alone for ID. In fact, the only way to conclusively identify most spiders to species is by dissecting the genitalia. Very nice photo, though:-)

Thanks!
Thanks for your quick identification and photo compliment. :-) Any ideas what kind of wolf spider - if you had to venture a guess?

Hogna?
Probably a species of Hogna if it was exceptionally large, but that is only a guess. You have to look at really minute characters like bristles on the legs and such in order to confirm any ID on wolf spiders, even to genus!
