Xylophagid flies--detail of antennae - Rachicerus - male - female

Xylophagid flies--detail of antennae - Rachicerus - Male Female
Fews Ford, Eno River State Park, Orange County, North Carolina, USA
June 18, 2006
Size: 12 mm
By special request, I went through the series of photos I took of these feisty little flies and picked the best views of those interesting antennae. The upper frames are two views (lateral and dorsal) of the female, and the lower, two views (dorso-lateral and dorsal) of the male. In both cases the antennae have many segments, and they are pectinate (comb-like), especially in the male.
