Macaria ribearia
Macaria ribearia seems like the best match. There are quite a few photos of the caterpillars on iNaturalist.

Moved from Speranza.

MPG has another similar
looking one under andersoni?? Maybe the best we can do right now is genus??

That's fine. This will give me something to search for next year.

What do you think of Speranza argillacearia

caterpillar
The marking that I can see on the face seems to match. There are no blueberry bushes around here but there are a lot of gooseberry bushes. Of course I don't remember where I found the caterpillar:( but now that I know about the relation to gooseberries I can make another search next spring.

ok,
we'll keep searching for an ID

caterpillar
Found a photo in (1) which looks like a close match -- Macaria(Itame)ribearia -- Currant Spanworm moth. Just got this book from the library today. It has quite a good collection of photos of moths and caterpillars from Wisconsin, Minnesota, Michigan and Ontario. Some of the scientific names are not quite up-to-date, however.

That would make sense, since both of these were found
on Ribes, but Wagner shows the current spanworm as having larger spots. Maybe he has the images reversed??

Any other images where we can see the head better
or the abdominal prolegs? Is that a dorsal yellow line, or is the bright white line dorsal? If two prolegs, then Mike Quinn has a Geometrid that is somewhat similar.

only one photo
This was the only photo I had of the caterpillar.
