Gray Hairstreak - Strymon melinus

Gray Hairstreak - Strymon melinus
Leeburg, Oregon, USA
April 12, 2011
A quick look at the maps and statistics show that the gray hairstreak represents the North American Strymon, in the sense that it is the only wide spread species. The above average number of species presented in this section supports its wide range.

The remaining Strymon have limited southern ranges. All the Strymon, however, are very nice looking hairstreak butterflies. They can be among the earliest of the season's butterflies as well as showing up at the end of the season.
