Blaberus sp. "Florida" - Blaberus atropos - Female
Miami, Florida, USA
This species was found in Florida several years ago near a warehouse. Due to the variability in pronotum markings and wing patterns it is possible that they are Blaberus atropos. The female on the right is freshly molted.
The original stock was collected from the Wynwood neighborhood under a piece of plywood.

Blaberus atropos
is listed in the Blattodea Species Files as one of many junior synonyms of B. craniifer, the so-called Cuban Death's Head Roach, which does occur in extreme southern Florida.

Dr. Louis Roth confirmed that B. atropos is a separate species from B. craniifer, belonging to the atropos group (which includes similar species such as B. discoidalis.) These are, for certain, not B. craniifer, by many definitions.
