We're posting a second shot that shows more of the face. Unfortunately, a leaf is covering the end of the heavy white slant line, but you can see it crosses over toward the abdominal proleg in Stephen's image

Yes, modesta
I still think this is Pachysphinx modesta. The purplish patch between the bars on the "face" is also a characteristic I've seen in images of this species.
