H. maculata - Sternidius alpha

H. maculata - Sternidius alpha
7 mi S of Harbor Beach, Huron County, Michigan, USA
July 16, 2011
Size: ~4 mm
Came to black light trap.

I keyed this out to be Hyperplatys maculata using Lingafelter(1)

I moved this to the genus level for further confirmation. If confirmed first data point for Michigan for BG.

Moved
Moved from Acanthocinini.

not Hyperplatys; can't tell offhand --Sternidius, i suppose
could you pls switch the images so the dorsal comes first? (always a good idea when posting beetles; dorsal habitus being critical in most cases, the comments will go there; for bycid identification, lateral habitus is rarely needed)
Moved from Hyperplatys.

Thnx
I switched the pictures. And you are right. I photographed the wrong cerambycid. Shame on me. I will add H. maculata tomorrow.

Should I switch out the pictures here or add a new entry?

thanx --everything's fine now
time permitting, pls do the same with your other submissions

...
Ok keyed it out to Sternidius alpha
The first metatarsal segment is equal in length to the second and third segment, also there are 3 vague dark spots on the pronotum.

Thanks V. for pointing out my mistake.

S. alpha makes sense
was my first instinct, too --but these are murky... good thing you could 'scope the specimen, thus eliminating guesswork
