found it near my porch light at night-it's the only I've seen

Dorcus stag beetle.
Neat find! This is an "antelope beetle," Dorcus parallelus, in the stag beetle family (Lucanidae). I don't think they are that common, or at least don't fly to lights as frequently as Lucanus capreolus:-)

I kind of thought it was in that general group-but had no-idea which species- even after looking here. So many big black beetles!!!
