Ants - Lasius

Ants - Lasius
Dismal Swamp State Park, Camden County, North Carolina, USA
January 12, 2012
Found underneath a rotting log. I'm thinking of Lasius nearcticus, but unsure. Unfortunately, this was my best photo.

Probably so.
Based on the photo, the guess of Lasius nearcticus seems right. The loccation is interesting. I think of this as a more northern species, one that might be up in the mountains but not in the lowlands of North Carolina. How high in elevation is Dismal Swamp?

11 feet
in that area, according to Google Earth.
