Temnothorax nevadensis
This is a specimen of Temnothorax nevadensis. This species is quite similar to T. rudis, but has longer, skinnier propodeal spines, and a less-robust petiolar node. Compare to http://www.antweb.org/specimen.do?name=casent0005689&shot=h1&project=calants

Redwood Forest
Thank you for this ID. I was reading the page for it at this link
http://www.antweb.org/description.do?subfamily=myrmicinae&genus=temnothorax&name=nevadensis&rank=species&project=calants
and it was giving locations. I found this one 60 ft or so from a year round stream side, a common habitat for Redwood Sorrel, in a mixed redwood/Tan Oak forest.
I have other ants on Western Wakerobin and Redwood Sorrel, hopefully I can find them while I still have this trial photo software that pulled so much detail out.
