Xylophanes pluto? - Xylophanes pluto

Xylophanes pluto? - Xylophanes pluto
Boca Raton, Palm Beach County, Florida, USA
January 26, 2012
Size: 25mm
I'm assuming Xylophanes pluto based on Wagner (2005). I don't see any brown forms in the guide, but I'm sure they exist? Feeding on firebush (Hamelia patens), which is why I assume this species.

Correct
X. pluto, an earlier instar by the looks of it. According to Bill Oehlke's site there are three color forms; green, brown, and purple/brown. This one almost looks purple/brown.
