native to Europe, adventive in NA (ne. US & se. Canada; probably introduced with imported elms)(1); recently established in the Pacific Northwest as well(2) [also known on the Pacific coast of Russia(3)]

Life Cycle
parthenogenetic (males unknown in NA, rare in Europe), univoltine; adults from mid-May to early June; larvae mine elm leaves until mid-July, when they drop to the ground, where they form thin cocoons in the soil and overwinter(1)
