Flat-footed fly? - Calotarsa pallipes - male

Flat-footed fly? - Calotarsa pallipes - Male
Lehigh County, Pennsylvania, USA
September 11, 2011
Size: approx 6mm
Not a lot to go on here; but this does seem to match up nicely with the single image in BG of Calotarsa insignis. However, further research would indicate a C. pallipes here on the east coast not C. insignis. What I first dismissed as dark leaf blotches I now believe are the modified, flattened hind tarsi noted for this family, based on looking at the multiple images of this individual I took as it moved around.
