white tailed robber fly - Promachus princeps

white tailed robber fly - Promachus princeps
Virginia City, Storey County, Nevada, USA
June 25, 2006
I didn't get a measurement, it looked good sized, but not huge.

Moved
Moved from Giant Robber Flies.

Thorax here looks to have brown pilosity dorsally
...would that indicate P. albifacies rather than P. princeps (which is described as having thorax w/ gray pilosity)?

See comments & links under post below:

Robber
Probably a western Promachus species with that taillight Tom. But Fisher or Cannings may know this one.

It looks like
the P. albifacies I photographed last year in Colorado, or a closely related species. Thanks for the help Herschel!!
