thanks
Have seen them all my life, but never had bugguide!!

water striders
We had a pond in our backyard when I was a kid and I remember seeing these and a lot of other water insects including those huge water bugs which were rather scary-looking. I see them now in a nearby creek but haven't gotten around to photographing any of them.

cool Ilona
I grew up in a creek.. so they were everywhere as well...I got some more photos too, buy my MICRO lens comes today, so watch out bugs.. lol..hope I can get some really good ones.. that would be cool..they are scary looking, they sure liked that fish food!

Pretty, but be careful!
Handling them isn't advisable, since they have a powerful, short beak that can give you a nasty nip! I learned that the hard way years ago. Not that they're easy to catch.

NO WAY
HOW COOL.. thanks for the warning, I don't handle much, I prefer to capture with my lens.. but thanks for the warning!! good to know!
