Scarites???
or Semiclivina dentipes???/Clivina sp.??

Hmm
I didn't notice the listed size of 9 mm, which is too small for Scarites.

If truly 9 mm, then it would be Clivina or Semiclivina. Also if found at a light, as suggested by sheet-like background, would further imply one of the smaller species. I don't recall ever seeing Scarites come to lights.

Scarites are commonly attracted to nocturnal lights --
frequently via flight according to Larochelle & Larivere (2003), but in my experience too, I've seen them only crawl to lights.

I've seen Scarites at light...
in Arizona, also on the ground, but unsure if they were attracted to the light or the potential insect prey attracted to the light (I always suspected the latter...)

Check out Scaritine Ground Beetles...
...like the ones here.
