Found this large caterpillar eating sage. Saw another one eating sulphur buckwheat.

Bobby, you're right
I just checked all the buckmoths in the U.S.
here
, and only the Hera fit the distribution map, and the host plant.

I'm glad you did some research on this one. These caterpillars are quite variable, but the stripe-like markings on this one are quite different from those on any image I have seen from H. lucina.
