Scorpionfly - Panorpa hungerfordi - Female
Cross Plains, Dane County, Wisconsin, USA

Only photo I have of this Scorpionfly. The color was more reddish than the others that I usually find around here.

Moved from Panorpa.

If the wings were narrower, I might suggest that this was Panorpa setifera. The wing patterns are not diffuse as P. helena. For your locality if there were two marginal spots I would suggest either P. dubitans or P. anomala, however it only has one. Therefore I must conclude that this is Panorpa hungerfordi, a fine late season scorpionfly. Panorpa hungerfordi typically has very amber wings, once again confirming the identity.
