The other images from this contributor
were taken on a boat in the Gulf off shore from Texas and Louisiana. We're guessing this image was captured in the same area, one or two hundred miles offshore.

Acanthocephala femorata
Agree with you on the leaf-footed bug. More specifically I think it is Acanthocephala femorata - they are super common. Check out http://www.floridanature.org/species.asp?species=acanthocephala_femorata
