Caterpillar hunter - Calosoma scrutator

Caterpillar hunter - Calosoma scrutator
Charlotte, Mecklenburg County, North Carolina, USA
March 25, 2012
Size: 23mm
This is one of several I noticed on our maple tree this morning--thankfully, as the cankerworms have arrived. They all were quite colorful, as well.

Moved

Moved for expert attention.
Moved from Calosoma aurocinctum.

According to the Guide, aurocinctum is restricted to southern Texas. This looks more like C. scrutator.

Thanks
Missed the info on that, didn't dig as far as I should have. Thanks, again.
