This suborder is split into 4 subfamilies which can be put in 3 groups:
-Anthuroidea, a group of very long vermiform isopods that used to be considered a different suborder
-Cymothoidea, a group of facultative and obligate fish parasites that include some of the largest isopods in the world
-Epicaridea, a group of bizarre crustacean parasites that contains 2 superfamilies (Bopyroidea and Cryptoniscoidea)
