Golden Buprestid - Buprestis aurulenta

Golden Buprestid - Buprestis aurulenta
A ranch, between Mitchell and Fossil, Wheeler County, Oregon, USA
June 26, 2006
This beautiful beetle landed on our daughter's finger during a picnic. We arrived at the ID by searching the guide for metallic beetles, and found this, which seems to match. A comment on one of the other images said this is a fairly common beetle in the Pacific northwest; so it seemed likely. Any confirmation or correction is welcome.

Found one of these guys dead
Found one of these guys dead on my bedroom floor and I live in Vermont. The room had served as temporary storage for my sister's things after she moved from NM, so I'm guessing he hitchhiked East. Can't think how else a Pacific Northwest bug would appear!

I got one!
Hey, I have one too! And I'm keeping it! I have a couple questions though...how do I know which needles are Douglas fir, which it eats? And can it bite me?
Thanks!

Buprestis (Cypriacis) aurulenta
That's it! I really didn't expect to get a response so quickly. Thanks very much for the ID. BTW, the photo was a quick shot with a non-macro zoom lens. Given how beautiful the Jewel Beetle is, I'm glad it turned out.

Best regards,
Patrick
