Pesky fly - Simulium - female

Pesky fly - Simulium - Female
Loves Park 15 miles south of Wisconsin border, Winnegabo County, Illinois, USA
March 27, 2012
Size: 3 mm
I was cutting the grass and several flies buzzed around my head. They seamed to want me to swat them, but I got my net and collected them. I glued one to a tooth pick to allow me to photograph it. Were they trying to bite me?
