Limonius? these are out in abundance now, often multiple beetles per leaf, in certain areas of the woods.

pretty sure this is Limonius
If size is accurate, leaning towards quercinus or basilaris, although the opened elytra are blocking the view of the pronotal hind angles, which is the most-important dorsal feature for separating the two!!! :-/

I wasn't originally aware of the pronotal distinction needed here for ID, but now I know :-) this is a great place for learning. thanks!

i doubt it will be possible to tell as little as subfamily :/
