I've only seen specimens with black "end"s before

Hi Larry, I'm the guy at Lew
Hi Larry,
I'm the guy at Lewis & Clark College who studies L. maculata. You have provided data before. This one is interesting because, as you note, it lacks much of the black at the ends. This form is fairly rare in the Eastern population, although a number of reports have surfaced recently. The other "yellow" L. maculata population, on the CA coast, is about 50:50 the black/yellow type and this type (all yellow). Please contact me as I would like to get more details and as precise a location as possible. Thanks. Ken Strothkamp

One of these in Corralitos, CA
Ken -

I've just identified one of these with the exact markings as the pictured as well. I have photos as well. I spotted it and photos it today, August 12, 2012 in Corralitos, CA.

Yes, Lophocampa maculata is correct. They have a fair amount of variation.

Moved from ID Request.
