Large Beetle - Nicrophorus

Large Beetle - Nicrophorus
Pymatuning Lake, Crawford County, Pennsylvania, USA
July 4, 2006
This large beelte (I'd say over 2 inch wing span) came to a black light. It landed once but I didn't get a photo. I think I saw mandibles like on a stag beetle. It appears to be covered with parasites.

Moved
Moved from Beetles.

Nicrophorus
Looks like a member of the genus Nicrophorus, and for good measure they are often covered with hitch-hiking mites.

Thanks
Wow, I didn't know they got so big. I see now that the elytra are inverted. I was pretty confused. Thanks.
