Explanation of Names

Microporus nigrita (Fabricius 1794)

medieval Latin nigrita 'negro'; this is a noun, thus nigritus is an incorrect form (nouns used as trivial names are not subject to change depending on combination)

Range

native to, and widespread all across the temperate and southern Palaearctic(1), adventive in NA (e. US & ON); originally reported from DE, CT, NY, NJ, PA(2), then ON, SC, and VA(3)(4)
