A. sulphurea? -
Arphia conspersa
-
Sandilands Provincial Forest, se of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada
April 4, 2012
Size: aprox 15mm's
Found on a sandy blowout at edge of Jack Pine woods. Arphia sulphurea seems best bet to me but a confirmation or otherwise requested.

I think I'll go with Arphia conspersa with this one
The "forehead" seems too rounded and the front of the fastigium too wide for
S. sulphurea
, but I still have a hunch that the two species may intergrade in that part of the world (would love to do some field work where the two come together).
Moved from
Band-winged Grasshoppers
.

conspersa / sulphurea
Just what I need...grasshoppers that intergrade. Identification is already tricky as it is! It would be interesting to find out if the two species do mix. You'd be welcome up here and thanks for the id.
