Virginia Creeper Borer - Albuna fraxini - female

Virginia Creeper Borer - Albuna fraxini - Female
Essex, Ontario, Canada
July 3, 2006
Size: 15 mm
Perhaps freshly emerged, wings have a blue cast. Virginia Creeper (Parthenocissus quinquefolia) is common in southern Ontario, but this borer is not listed here for Ontario. Comments or correction welcome.

Someone Has To Be First....
... for reporting this species from Canada. Since it occurs in Michigan (barely a stone's throw from you) this record should not be too surprising. I'd suggest sending a copy of the very nice photo to Don Lafontaine at the Moths of Canada website. His email address is given there.

Listed for Ontario.
I meant that no-one had sent a photo yet. So I'm the 'someone who has to be first' on Bugguide...to submit a picture from Ontario. ;)
