Captured today while feeding on honey that I put near the entry way of a new hive, retrieved from a palm tree. A little chilled.

Amber/red and others more yellow.
I am sure that others here have noticed that V. squamosa queens can be red to mostly yellow. In my area the queens I have seen were more amber colored. This V. sqauamosa looks like a "Californina yellowjacket" queen due to the very yellow coloring.

This is a queen of Vespula squamosa. Nice pics.

Not an ID, just an observation...
It bears a resemblance to a Vespula squamosa queen:



I'll be interested to see if the experts agree.
