April 16, 2012
Seconds after leaving its pupal shell, this butterfly had climbed to a branch a few inches away and started exercising its proboscis. A bit of the shell had lodged on the proboscis and seemed to prevent the distal portions of the halves from joining. Time: 9:58 a.m.

Eight years old and still getting new views. Thanks for commenting!

Happening upon the event in real life is quite something, too.
