Caterpillar Invasion in South Texas, about an hour Northwest of Corpus Christi - Acronicta rubricoma

Caterpillar Invasion in South Texas, about an hour Northwest of Corpus Christi - Acronicta rubricoma
Lagarto, near Lake Corpus Christi, Live Oak County, Texas, USA
April 16, 2012
Size: Approx. 2-3 inches
This is the main character in our invasion. This particular caterpillar outnumbers the others probably 8 to 1. It may be that this is the same caterpillar as some of the others just a different stage of development. However, I am listing it as species 2 of the "INVASION"!

here is this moth

We unlinked these two from the other images
since this is a different species. See

We were driving up 281 from Hidalgo Co Sunday and there was an explosion of butterflies. Don't know if they were getting pushed across the road by the high winds or what. They looked like leaves being blown off the trees in the fall and it went on for miles! Thousands of them, mile after mile. Mostly Sulphurs, but numerous different species. It was an awesome spectacle.

we have been having the same phenomenon here
Last Saturday evening just before a tstorms coming in, it literally looked as if it was snowing! Simply awe inspiring. Thanks for unlinking these two pics. I see they are different species. I will be up loading several more photos of the various caterpillars.around my house. Some may be.the same as the ones I've already loaded. I have enjoyed and appreciated this site and everyone who has helped me to identify my "invaders"!
