Broad-banded Swallowtail, frontal - Papilio astyalus - Female
World Birding Center HQ at Bentsen-Rio Grande Valley State Park, Hidalgo County, Texas, USA
July 6, 2006
This butterfly showed up outside the World Birding Center offices at Bentsen-Rio Grande Valley State Park. We originally identified it as a dark-morph female Ornythion Swallowtail, but after viewing some photos taken nearby, I began to suspect it might be this species instead. This suspicion was confirmed by Jan and David Dauphin.
