Eight-spotted Forester - Alypia octomaculata

Oberlin, Ohio, USA

This was one of my first bug pictures. I was mystified by what at first appeared to be pollen baskets on the legs of this species. An entomologist friend was able to ID it sight unseen by that characteristic. This web page calls them "orange socks". Personally, I think leg-warmers is a better description.
