male variolus. white bandi
male variolus.

white banding on the abdomen (4 vs 3)

not a black widow male
Maybe a red back spider?
Here's the site I got the pic from http://www.usefilm.com/image/405345.html

How odd, you're in Tennessee right? I checked wiki on red back spiders, and it says the white banding is with youth, but these things are found only in Australia. I dunno, here's the wiki http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Redback_spider. Can't be a red back in Tennessee, must be something else.
