Powdered Dancer - Argia moesta

Powdered Dancer - Argia moesta
NW of Leakey, TX, Real County, Texas, USA
July 11, 2006
Taken near the headwaters of the Frio River today, anyone?

Dusky Dancer
Cliff's got this one, too. And again, the ID can be confirmed by a close look at the terminal appendages. They're not as clear as the other individual, but you can still tell that the paraprocts are distinctly longer than the cerci. I like the purple eyes as a field mark, too. They always scream Dusky Dancer to me, but I can't say for sure that Powdereds never have them.

Same specimen?
To me, this image looks like a Powdered Dancer, but not as mature as your previous image (you can just see a black shoulder stripe under the developing pruinosity, but the abdomen isn't yet as pruinose) while the one on the twig looks like a Kiowa Dancer, IMO. We have a lot of the Kiowa Dancers where I live. Compare for a lateral view of a male Kiowa Dancer (ID confirmed by Dr. Abbott at UT.) The narrow pale ring is bordered by two black rings, and there's a blue/violet area between the black/pale/black pattern. The blue/violet areas shade their way down the abdomen.

This image does not show that kind of pattern, but the dorsal view of the one on the twig does.

Powdered?
Purple eyes, slight pruinosity on thorax but abdomen completely clear...says Dusky to me.

Thanks
Thanks Ms. Moon. your help is appreciated.
