Dear Sean. Many species of Hypogastruridae live on the watersurface. They might get trapped on such an egg raft... Nice image.

Thanks for the ID! I don't think they were trapped, because some of them would walk off and then return.

 
Meniscus trap
Many Collembola can walk on the watersurface, but when they encounter a meniscus they cannot walk up/down to it. They will simply glide back. The meniscus around this raft forms a steep convex watersuface wall around it. Small Collembola will always glide back towards the raft whenever they try to walk away from it. There is only one escape: jump! ;-)
