nymphalid caterpillar - Haploa
Eagle Creek, Sierra Blanca, Lincoln County, New Mexico, USA

Unknown caterpillar, presumably a nymphalid. On a leaf of Dryopteris filix-mas, although it did not seem to be eating the plant (no signs of caterpillar damage on any of the Dryopteris in the area).
