Dermacentor in CA...
you really need to see the shape of the spiracular plate and basis capituli to separate the two, not color/markings. The spiracular plate is not visible here and the b.c. is out of focus and at an off-set angle, unfortunately.

 
Doesn't that mean most photos should be moved to genus then?
PS. do you have photos/diagrams showing those features? I would be happy to document them for future specimens if I know what to look at.
