Which scarab? - Hoplia

Which scarab? - Hoplia
Fairfield, Somerset County, Maine, USA
May 5, 2012
Size: 10mm
I found 2 of these crawling around upper branches near blossoms of a young pear tree...
Are these going to eat the whole tree? It seemed like they were just roaming around and tree had no sign of damage...

One did eventually fly, but it returned immediately to the same branch.
