Beetle - Thalpius

Beetle - Thalpius
Spiderweb, Aiken County, South Carolina, USA
May 5, 2012
Size: 5mm
Came to light.

Thalpius pygmaeus
is my image recognition today. Support from the uniformly dark dorsum, suggestion of coarse seriate punctures throughout all elytral striae. locality.

Moved
Moved from Ground Beetles.

Pseudaptinus (Thalpius) sp.
-- comes down to a dark T. dorsalis or T. pygmaeus in SC. True proportions of middle antennal segments, important diagnostically, are suggested to be squarish in this image, thus favoring T. pygmaeus. That and other anatatomic details would need to be studied under scope to be sure about species in my opinion.
