Stink Bug Cosmopepla - Cosmopepla lintneriana

Stink Bug Cosmopepla - Cosmopepla lintneriana
Kennebunk, Maine, USA
July 30, 2004
pretty little stink bug, 7mm; yearly visitor. Cosmopepla bimaculata

Moved to Guide Page
I moved this to a guide page. A common name I found on the web was "Twice-stabbed Stinkbug".

Name change
I just learned from an authority on Pentatomidae that the corrected name is now Cosmopepla lintneriana. It has no official common name to my knowledge.

I have photographed this one, too
It was very common in the summer in Ohio when I lived there. Glad to finally get an ID - I will have to look through my pictures and see if I have any worth sharing.

Name changed in guide, with ambivalence
I changed the name on the guide page, but I confess much ambivalence. I never know what to do with these reclassifications--sometimes the more recent nomenclature can cause more confusion among amateurs, despite being technically "correct". We almost need a "Latin synonymn field" to go along with each species page and to attach to each image.

I'll start a forum discussion on this, and see what people think.
Thanks for your help, as always, Eric.
