Odd black beetle of unknown family - Stenispa metallica

Odd black beetle of unknown family - Stenispa metallica
Gretna, Pittsylvania County, Virginia, USA
April 26, 2012
Size: 5 mm long, 2 mm wide
Collected by sweeping in a pasture beside a wood lot. Shares some characteristics of Buprestidae and Curculionidae but doesn't fit either family neatly. Tarsal formula 4-4-4, antennae inserted between eyes, mouthparts directed forward, dense whitish pubescence on tarsi and as well as underneath the distal ends of the tibia. Slight bluish metallic tint to the otherwise black exoskeleton. Face is blunt and head somewhat cylindrical. I've been unable to key this one down to family, let alone anything more specific.

must be S. metallica -- will revisit
btw, when you want a beetle ID'd, taking a plain dorsal view is well worth extra effort: makes all the difference (additional angles and details may facilitate our task, but in most cases they are of minor importance, while seeing the dorsal habitus is usually critical)
so if you still have the specimen, pls try to obtain a better lit plain dorsal shot. thanks.

Moved from ID Request.
