certainly Hyperaspis or Brachiacantha
Eagerly anticipating the "headshot"! The foreleg would also be useful, if it has a spur it's Brachiacantha, otherwise Hyperaspis.

Brachiacantha subfasciata...
...is the only thing in the guide that looks like a reasonably good match to me.
i suspect that Abby may want to see a mugshot (head+front pronotal margin), and hope she figures this nice beast out

I'll freeze him for that
he's taking off during any photo session. That's why I have a Kukulia nest in the window of my studio - to recollect escapees

freeze *her* probably
Without a direct headshot I can't say for sure, but the visible head and pronotum are solid black, so this is probably a female. On the one hand, females are harder to visually ID, but on the other, they are larger than males, and a sp. with females under 4mm may be easier to figure out.

I had to revise the size:
when active, she's 4 o 4.5 mm

how about

montezuma lady beetle?

wait for the experts, of course

pattern matches but colors don't
Thalassa montezumae is metallic blue with orange spots - in some lighting it does look dark gunmetal gray or blackish, though.

Twice Stabbed Ladybug
Twice Stabbed Ladybug

The twice stabbed
doesn't occur this far west, and it is not black underneath

Underside solid black
