good example of a distinctive venter
The underside of Mulsantina spp. is very distinctive with its bold white markings. Although this particular individual is clearly M. picta from the upperside pattern, I have seen an M. picta with immaculate elytra that couldn't be ID'd even to genus from dorsal photos (not for lack of trying by all the BG coccinellid gurus!) but was instantly ID'd when an expert looked at the specimen itself ... he just turned it over!
