Peigler's Oakworm Moth - Anisota senatoria - male - female

Peigler's Oakworm Moth - Anisota senatoria - Male Female
Durham County, North Carolina, USA
July 7, 2001
Mating occurred during the day! I had the female pupa outside in a jar of soil in a terrarium. I only noticed she had emerged when I saw two males clinging to the mesh of the terrarium top. I provided the female with a stick to climb onto, and one of the males won the competition. I was able to get several photos. Female was then released.

Female of this pair (larger individual in rear of photo) was same individual as this caterpillar--shown in linked images.
